Nice Weekend
30th August 2004
Had a nice weekend. Saturday was spent loitering at home until 4, followed by a few hours of group singing practice at a friends place.
Sunday lunch consisted of fried chicken. Yummy! Dessert was a shared EarthQuake icecream at Swensens with a couple of friends. Killer combi of icecreams I would henceforth recommend would be - sticky chewy chocolate, Yummy Raisins, Coffee, Butterscotch, Peanut (some name i can't remember), lemon & orange (some sour stuff to cleanse the palatte) and *wrecking brain* one more flavour.
After a bus ride to a recording studio, this was followed by almost 3 hours of singing with friends. The recording was a success. It shouldn't be surprising that many people love to cut their own CDs. A $40 to $60 per hour recording time is rather reasonable price.
The next treat came after in the form of an enjoyable dinner of fish curry, bak kut teh and some other chinese cuisines. The best part about the whole thing was definitely the company of great friends.
Even the notion of a working week ahead is not dampened after that. Ah, the benefits of an outing.
All about Maggots
27th August 2004
Maggots are truly gross. The more so knowing that their diet usually consist of dead stuff. I believe many share the same sentiments. Else, they wouldn't have made those brave contestants of shows like Fear Factor eat them, drink them, swim in them ... ew, like I said, gross.
So why dig up this topic? A few nights back I spotted some maggots outside my flat. The first thoughts were, did something die? *shudder* Just seeing one curl and uncurl itself is a horror scene itself. The second thought was, did I step on one? *double shudder*
The first time I truly understand the phrase "fascinated horror" was seeing maggots dropping out of the crack in the ceiling of my old house (Not the one I'm living in now.). The cause of it was most probably because a rat or bird got trapped between the roof and ceiling and sort of died there. I say probably, because I am not sure up till now. It was my first and I hoped last encounter with a family of maggots.
When I first spotted a few of 'em on the white tiles of the floor, I didn't know they were maggots until an aunty who was there told me (She was also the one who guessed the cause.). I stood there not too near to the ceiling, watching in fascination, and constantly reminding myself to keep my mouth closed, as I see maggots slip through a crack and plop down onto the floor, wriggling and wriggling. They don't do it continuosly though, so, I finally got bored after waiting and watching the first half a dozen and went about doing something else. After a few hours of activity (I was still interested enough to come and check on them), the maggots stopped trying out their flying abilities. I forgot how many dozen dropped down. Ew! I have to applaud the aunty though. She just continued ironing the clothes nearby.
I guess the most creepy thought was, how many was still up there. Can u imagine sleeping at night, and one just dropping into your mouth?
Maybe the most fearsome thing about maggots is actually the reminder of the shortness of life, and that death is always imminent.

Sorry I haven't updated for a few days. A runny nose has sort of deterred my muse from visiting.
Had a chat with a long forgotten icq friend today. I find that when breaking the ice, the best topic always seems to be movies.
"Have u watched any movies lately?"
"How bout the one acted by so and so?"
"What did u think about the show?"
I guess asking about the weather should be fine too, but it just feels strange. Inquiring about the family seems rather nosy for almost strangers. Interrogating him/her on her job would be rude. Somehow, the only thing that would bring strangers closer would be movies. It is not too personal, and yet not too different from one country to another. You can also gauge a strangers character by reading the review that he gives. The way the conversation can branch off from there is endless. Hurray for movies!

fm anticipation to dread
19th August 2004
Having seen the trailer for 13 Going On 30 a few months back on the web, I was greatly looking forward to seeing the movie on the big screen.
Seeing the trailer in the cinema a couple of weeks later, my enthusiasm was resparkled again. Having checked that the screening date would be on 15th of July, we (flatmate & myself) settled to looking forward to that day. Unfortunately, it was delayed for another week. Nonplussed, we comforted ourselves with the fact that it's still not too far away.
It is now mid of August. Having watched the trailer everytime I visited the cinema for other shows, the previous excitement have slowly soured.
At first it was, "Oh look, it's that trailer again. She looks nice."
Then it was, "Hmm, how long are they gonna make us wait before they show this movie?"
Lately, it has been, "Gosh... why don't they stop playing this thing and show us some other trailer?"
Honestly... there's suspense and there's suspense. I seriously doubt tht i'll go watch tht show now.

These two websites were so beautifully done... and showcased many drawings and pictures that are so wonderful, i'd like to dedicate today's rambling time to them instead. Better yet to listen to some Tim Janis music while appreciating them.
seize the day!

thnx viineon for dropping a note.
Ever noticed how u'd lay something aside so that u can pay more attention to it and end up not touching it like a zillion years? Things like important documents that need to be replied soon, or getting a birthday gift for someone special, or simply getting ur nails clipped?
I used to notice that some people love to safe-keep nice stuff, like a nicer looking notebook or bag. Nice stuff would differ with the age. With my niece, a "nice stuff" would be like a prettier piece of ribbon. I personally prefer to use anything that I can on the spot. Somehow, it's like the longer something is kept unused, the less meaning it would hold. Maybe it's like the strawberry and shortcake mentality. Are u the kind to eat the strawberry first or the cake first? (This is of course assuming that u prefer the strawberry to the cake). I'll usually take a bite of both and eat 'em together *grin* Getting the best of both worlds.
Coincidences
12th August 2004
Have u ever wondered about the butterfly effect? Can the flap of a butterfly's wings in some remote island truly effect for instance the weather of the world, or say my decision whether to eat a sandwich or sushi tonight?
Does that mean if I were to sneeze right this moment, I may have saved the earth from a collision with some huge hunks of meteor rocks a few decades down the line? Wow... my conclusion to this is "Who knows?"
Anyway, back to the topic of coincidences. My flatmate meet a new 'friend of a friend' a couple of days back. After a short hello and goodbye, they did not think they would meet again, well, until their mutual friend decide to call them out. The funny thing is they have met each other twice since then. This happened hundreds of km away from the first place they met. What r the chances of that?
In another less dramatic incident, I have been reading some fictional book bout multiple personalities lately. They mentioned that most left-handers are actually the survivor of a set of twins in the womb. so, it would not be too surprising tht she would have at least 2 personalities. I stress on 'she' coz the book also claims tht most of these MPD cases usually occur to the female population. Interesting theory. Well, coincidentally, I read an article today on movies tht have showcased these multiple personalities characters. The most recent one would be 'CatWoman'. The one that I have gotten the most kick from is "The Fighters' Club". Who would have thought tht Bradd Pitt was just the alter-ego of Edward Norton. Well, i was honestly clueless.

Snap snap...
10th August 2004
I have been debating with myself regarding recent concerns on perverts taking snapshots using their super fine camera integrated cellphones. The way I see it, many people seem to totally abhore this idea, some even suggesting that rules be implemented to lock-up these maniacs.
Hmm... honestly, I don't see what the fuss is all about. Afterall, the pictures were actually taken on the streets (meaning public area). It's not like the person crept into a toilet, hung his/her hand over the door, snap and ran. It's also quite unlikely that these people actually used their pick-locking talents to enter your home and snap ur pictures while u sleep.
If any rules were implemented, wouldn't that sort of impede some people's interest in simple picture taking? I mean, if Mr "Dumbnut" love taking pictures of ass or legs, it's sort of his right. If the result is sort of extremely revealing, would it not mean that the person wearing such short stuff is to be blamed? Afterall, he/she may be the weird one walking around with a thread thin shorts/skirt in public. Although, I must add, "Dumbnut" sure has an extremely silly hobby. Then again, if we were to lock-up Mr "Dumbnut", would that mean we have to lock up people who enjoy taking pictures of pretty ladies that they see? If we go even further, it may include the banning of pictures taken of another human. Aren't many of the prize winning pictures depicting pictures of children from some war-ridden countries? Would that mean the children there have a right to sue as well? Afterall, their pictures were published for everyone to see.
Gee... come to think of it, have they sued before?

Went swimming yesterday. Don't u just love that dead tired feeling after a nice swim and shower?
Web tinkering is so fun. It's like a mega copying session. hehe... I just found this web design index 3 book at the library and they showcased great websites everywhere. What a kick. There are so many great artists and designers out there. *Salute Salute*
