chicken tale
After abstaining from chicken for many months (except maybe for the occasional chicken nugget or 2), my mom decided her wounds have recovered sufficiently for her to start consuming another variety of meat aside fm the usual pork, pork and more pork. (The reason for the self-imposed anti-chicken diet is because chicken is believed to be more 'heaty' and affects the yin or yang or chi of recovery. err.. go figure).
So, in the morning I excitedly told Mauerise to buy two drumsticks or thigh, and we checked dat all the ingredients for making a mushroom steam chicken is available at home (ingredients would consist of mushrooms, onions and light+dark soy sauce).
Imagine my mom's reaction, when after lunch, she asked Mauerise to take the chicken out (so that she can teach her how to cook it) and Mauerise took out a box of KFC with 2 KFC original fried drumsticks inside.
LOL!
There could be many reasons for the mistake i guess. Mainly, the fact dat Mauerise had gotten used to the idea dat we somehow only buy pork from the supermarket. Another, being dat the only chicken we've had since she came to stay with us came fried either fm McD or KFC. hahaha

drama sypnosis
God of Cookery
The story had extremely weak plot control but it manages to milk in laughs in the silliest ways, imbuing the drama with out-of-the-world kung-fu scenes and occasionally spoofing movies like The Chinese Hero (Zung Hua Ying Xiong) & Kung-Fu (fm Stephen Chow). Wat delighted me at times was the sadistic sense of the director, executing 'deaths' or 'near deaths' in the most impressive methods. The scenes where the 1st lead actress was hit by a lorry was almost as good as that of Brad Pitt dying in Meet Joe Black, when the 2nd lead actress was shot through the mouth, with the bullet exiting the back of the head followed by a spurt of blood - cool, and when the 2nd baddy falls down fm the the hotel window - excellent splat effect. haha.... Death scenes should be this great all the time.
Goong S (or Goong 2)
I think people who think that Goong S (Prince Hoo) is a poor imitation of Goong (Princess Hour) are very small minded individuals. Although at first glance, the props seemed to be a more muted imitation, the inferiority ended there. The storyline is way way WAY better this time round, and the actors displayed much more talent and delicious bods *drool* compared to the 1st installment. Needless to say, the girl (Heo Ee Jae) is sweet enough to cause diabetes.
Honestly, though watching the talented se7en (the lead actor as LiHoo) was reason enough, wat attracted me more was the story of the drama itself. I still remembered the dragginess towards the later part of Goong (Pricess Hour), I had the urge to just forward through all the silly and time wasting scenes of the girl pining over her blurry love. Goong S on the other hand gave us a lead worth respecting. He is intelligent and funny, humble and yet arrogant in the best way. The story was also interesting because of the competition between LiHoo and LiJoon (2nd successor). Nothing beats a healthy competition.
So, if u are in dire need of a drama to sink ur teeth into at the mo, I'd suggest Goong S.
Gals who want to swoon over more pics of se7en can go to this comprehensive site of the drama: http://www.goong-s.com/

rude ≠ nasty ?
A recent article in the tv magazine i love to read was regarding rudeness. The writers were thoughtful enough in listing down pages of rude remarks that we tend to make. After reading them, I have to sheepishly admit that I commit a rude sin out of every 5 or so dat they listed down. I don't feel too bad tho, coz when it comes down to it, I think dat close friends should be rude to each other. Being polite should be reserved for strangers.
I mean, wat's the point of shopping with friends who won't be honest about whether u look bad in the clothes u tried on? If they are so polite they refuse to comment dat the dress u tried made u look fat, won't u rather shop on ur own?
Currently reading: journals again
Just finished reading: White by Ted Dekker - Only now do i realize why he named his trilogy books in such an order. Black was for the black forest, Red, was for the red lakes and White was for the white bride. Interesting.

both sides now
It's a peaceful feeling to be in an empty lab, with thunder and lightning fighting their way outside, sitting on a lab stool, wearing a comfortable jacket to warm myself against the cold air-con and most importantly, listening to good music. Thank u J for sharing the song Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell. It's the perfect song for such a perfect day.
Today, I feel so lucky to be a phd student.

be the top 25%
Another jotting brought on by the words of Scott Adams. Hehe, I'd better beware or I might begin taking his dilbert blog as some sort of self-help book, or God forbid, a 21st century bible.
The post was on career advice, and since i'll soon be encountering another unknown future, it sort of resonates in my bones. What is in store for me after i submit my thesis? Given that my thesis is hardly finished yet, i do feel rather pretentious thinking about such things. But then again, almost every single friend of mine seems to be pressing me for my plans.
My favourite reply is dat i'm thinking of becoming a law enforcer. A police officer maybe? The idea appeals to me very much at the moment, maybe because it seems so impossible. Nevermind that I'm such a good citizen, I follow all rules to the T, everything else that a good officer should have, i will have to search really hard for it.
Listing down reasons why being a policewoman is a bad idea:
(1) The physical aspects. I'd need to do lots of exercise. *cringe*
(2) A police should be observant, alert, suspicious, calm, stern, brave, good at analyzing and intelligent.
I am none of the above. *oopsy-daisy*
(3) It could be dangerous, and cowards like me hate dangerous stuff.
Currently reading: A Man Called Blessed by Ted Dekker - Continuation to Blessed Child. The story starts off with the search for The Ark of the Covenant
Just finished reading: Blink by Ted Dekker - Read this book b4.

data entry
I love data entry. It's one of those mindless jobs that leans more to labour and does not tax the brain much. I'd gladly do days of such labour instead of formulating a single line of equation. It is a worrying fact, considering that the latter is the crux. After days of measuring, it's also my monumental time; when the results can finally be produced in a useful form and does not require me moving away from the computer, thus, enhancing the magnetism between the stool and my butt. I work real hard in bonding them, as it is.
Recently, my neighbour has been relegating his accomplishment to his friends, showing us that his work involves methods to reduce time-wasting manual labour and concentrates on obtaining new and useful results rather than going in loops of 'dull' labour repeating old processes. Truly impressive and intense. It renders data entry to the equivalent of child-play tho, and makes me wonder whether is there still a niche somewhere out there for people like me. *glum*

reality tv
If all tv watchers can be divided into two groups of people, it would be those who like reality tv and those who don't. I rather think the line is so clearly defined, it won't be any fun to add any more thoughts on it. So, my question today is, if you have an hour of free time in your hand and only 2 channels to pick ur choice fm, would you watch a documentary channel or a reality tv program?
Since most reality tv these days are laughably unreal, i cringe at the thought of anyone watching a reality tv solely to learn more about the 'real' world. Afterall, knowing more about mother earth or the latest invention in science is as real as it gets. If you want more grit and politics, try the news. If you watch reality tv because it is fun, exciting, keeps you at the edge of your seat and you feel that it beats watching a traditional drama with nary an excitement in it, then, congratulations, you are truly a reality tv fan and need not consider the above question anymore.
If you r a tv fan who hates reality tv because it is too 'real' for your taste, then come right up and decide now. Would you prefer watching a show that tries to be real or a documentary which is all about the 'realness' of our world?
If you are a big fan of documentaries, then here's another question, isn't reality tv a sort of documentary too? The type that documents human behaviour and the way the world, or at least the producers, perceive the world today?
Me? I'd switch off the tv and read a book instead.

eek to dandruff
Dandruff is disgusting enough on its own when it is in little small sizes, but seeing a person with big white flakes on his head and shoulders will no doubt make a person take a few steps away from him.
Add to this fact that dandruff actually originates from fungus just somehow makes it more gross. Ew, fungus just brings to mind dirty green germs, darkness and damp smelly sensation. *yuck yuck*
Please people, use some anti-dandruff shampoo. Even though dandruff is not contagious, I still find it hard to breath easily in the presence of mass amount of it. Oh boy, even thinking about it brings an itch to my head.

swim
On the plus side of things, swimming is a real blast in this hot weather. So thankful for the newly opened sports centre nearby. There are many pools there including a nice jacuzzi corner, a circular stream and a mild little slide.
I love the lap pools there, nicely shaded and deep. Talking about laps, I've often wondered, if a pool is 50m long, is swimming once across it, 1 lap or half a lap?

HotHotHot
The worst ever summer just hit us here on this little island. i was oreadi complaining like a spoilt witch last year thinking back then dat it can't possibly get worst, but man, was i wrong. I can't decide whether to be thankful for the humidity (helps avoid all the dryness) or curse it every minute or so (sweat, wet, drip drip, yuck). Where did all the wind go? In this heat, even thinking cool thoughts and keeping a peaceful heart will not work. I'll shoot poisonous dark looks to anyone who even suggests this. No wonder bad temper is always associated with fire and heat.
Thanks goodness for air-con. *Hug my air-con and give him a few wetful smacks* *muaks muaks*
