achy butt
Another November to be tucked under the proverbial belt.
Won't it be smooth to approach each month end with the relaxed ease of a laid back beach dude? Like, "Hey buddy? Watzup? Month end? Really? Way cool dude...Like, easy dude..."
Anyways, this particular period of lunar switch feels more like a roller-coaster ride, whooshing by, all brakes released, a ride plunging straight toward yet another dip.
I'm annoyingly feeling sorry for myself for having dug another hole to fall into. Trust me to open my big mouth and guarantee handing in a report by the week end, when i haven't even finish forming the idea in my head. *roll eyes* So, the next few days would be a juggle between producing a magical 6-paged report based on some sims yet to be tabulated in the midst of supervising some experiment, producing a jig design and sending out parts for coating, tutoring about a software, and cramming the last hours of practice for the small performance on Friday nite. :P *nooo problem...rite...*

Hating Conformity
Found the slogan for this year's design festival to be quite cool:
"Hate Conformity enough, and you will make a difference."
"Hate" is usually such a negative word, it's quite refreshing to use it in a way that promotes changes. Guess it is also a way to steer away from conformity.
Though, the word hate made me recall a few other phrases like, "We usually hate someone who reminds us too much of ourselves," or rather, the part of us that we don't like admitting we possess. And we usually admire traits in others that we ourselves don't possess.
And then there is the: "Fine line between Hate and Love" philosophy. Could that mean, if we hate conformity too much, then, eventually, we will be the conformists, the ones that won't budge and grip too firmly to the rules?
Currently reading: Life Expectancy by Dean Koontz - Jimmy Tock's dying granfather prophesies 5 dark days in his grandson's life, and Jimmy will have to survive them;
Everything You Need by A. L. Kennedy - About Nathan and daughter, Mary, learning to love one another in an island of writers (7 of 'em). Mary does not know that Nathan is her father. She is trying to get his acceptance as a writer. The story reeks of feminine writing, added with a sprinkling of foul adjectives. The painted vocab. is fun for awhile, but, I'm starting to drown in its incessant spewing of green blades of grass, sea-breeze and whispers of conversations brought in with the wind off the harbour, and self-finding amidst hot dry sand in hidden caves. *groan*
Just finished reading: Blood Debt by Tanya Huff- Final book in the series, about a ghost seeking for revenge; Velocity by Dean Koontz - Started out abit like Ted Dekker's Three, where Bill gets a note on his windshield, asking him to decide whether to let a school teacher be killed, or an old woman. It is a book that tells us to live our lives, love our friends and family, and not just stay at the fringes of our existence. And everything was done in the light, Dean Koontz way.

LifeAgain
My tv buddy, LP and I are lamenting over the poor choice of dramas to watch these few days. The reason being, we have pretty much exhausted all the current shows. As a result, all I can do now is to wallow in past glory.
Spent less than 2 days last week to finish this 20-vcd-73minutes-per-cd-long drama. And, amazing myself, I did not touch the forward button even once, enduring all the tedious slower moments of any self-respecting korean drama. And thanks to subtitles that I could understand, I got the extra bonus of listening to dub-free dialogue.

Ladies and gentlemen, let me have the honour to promote LifeAgain (or Resurrection) in my humble little blog. The story revolves around a policeman (Ha Eun) who was brought up by this man (whom i'll just call Uncle) who has a daughter called Eun Ha. Ha Eun was handed to him by this "stranger" guy during a stormy night, to take care, as payment to a debt that he owed the stranger at the gambling table. (Btw, if u haven't noticed, Uncle named him Ha Eun, which is the invert of his own daughter's name.)

Fast forward 20 years or so, Ha Eun is now a police detective, investigating the suicide of a hotel manager/owner. His captain and him deduced that it was a murder, and in the course of investigation, found it to be related to another suicide/murder that happened 20 years ago.

Ha Eun then found out he is actually Yii-Hyuk, son of the detective that investigated the case 20 years ago (and died in a car crash), also, twin brother of Kang-Hyuk, current vice-president of a construction company owned by their step-father. Kang-Hyuk is in love with (oops...forgot her name) LadyB, but LadyB finds him awfully cold and wooden. She is a reporter, and tries hard to convince her politician father, Senator Lee, to stop the engagement. She and Kang-Hyuk are acquintances of GuyB, son of the J&C Construction boss (let's just call the father, the J&C guy). GuyB and Kang-Hyuk are always at each other's throats, though GuyB usually gets the upper-hand coz he is devious and is always bribing one party or another to get the construction deals that he want.

As the first couple of episodes unfold, Senator Lee & this J&C guy found out that Yii-Hyuk is still alive, & asks this other guy (BigBully) to take care of him (yes, coz they are actually involved in Yii-Hyuk's dad's death.) coz he is getting real close to unveiling both the cases. Unfortunately, BigBully and gang offed the wrong guy, killing Kang-Hyuk instead of Ha Eun.

Ha Eun decides to dish out revenge in disguise of his brother Kang-Hyuk, infiltrating their world, and slowly executing his sweet vengeance.
Now, stories of pay-back and good guys planning revenge is pretty much the content of most dramas, especially if they are not featuring lovey-dovey couple stories. But, like wow, this one beats every other story. No contest.

I was filled with admiration with the whole 'execution'. The way Ha Eun lets LadyB to slowly solve the murder of his own death, feeding her little clues, yet holding back, incase she might get hurt. The way he solves the problems that Kang-Hyuk had and beat GuyB in getting a construction deal (with no bribing watsoever). Best of all, the way he orchestrated the hoax that suckered the bad guys and brought them to their downfall. His choices and his timing, his plotting and the decisions he made, are all almost perfect.
And it is so much fun to have a lead with an IQ level which is a few notches higher than the bad guys. It was getting abit tiresome to see good guys in dramas making wrong choices, and having their plans foiled by the bad guys they are supposed to catch.

Devil Beside You
hehe... another taiwan show that got us glued on the tv. Had been watching quite a collage of shows these past few weeks. Have shown some of the pics here for keepsake.

Revolving Doors of Vengeance is enjoyable because initially, we are not too sure who are the villains and who are the heroes. Really dislike Ron Ng in the show. Idiot. Worse hero ever. Joe Ma on the other hand is the coolest villain ever. woo-hoo.
In Ah Wong (Life Made Simple), well, u just enjoy seeing all the different stereotype of humans amalgamed together. Angel is manipulative but strangely nice when it suits her. Lou Poh Jai is hardworking, trying to break away from her perception of poverty, but a tad dull. Ah Wong is simple and very friendly, but unfortunately has an IQ of a 7 year old. Ah Hou is the ugly girl with a heart of gold and a voice of honey, Michael is the rich genius who is egocentric, his dad (& ah Wong's dad), a successful businessman who could not accept a retarded son. I'm fine with the whole show except the inevitable fact that Ah Wong will end up with his Lou Poh Jai. *sigh*
Devil Beside You, on the other hand, started off like all the usual love-story manga, naughty boy with golden heart treats girl tht he like cruelly, girl's hatred and fear of boy, becomes admiration, adoration and love. Not expecting too much drama to unfold. Can't comment too much yet. The main point of watching the show is just to oogle at the little devil, hoping to catch him on his better hair days. Honestly, those gel?, downright yucky.
Chun Xiang is another one of those Korean shows where girl and guy married real young, even though no affection initially existed, then eventually, became real love. But i think this is one of the better plots. The girl is really pretty.
Alrighty, i'm going home early now to cram in a few more episodes of Devil Beside You.

Grouping 'em up
Honestly, I think one of the most annoying traits of us human is our love in classifying or grouping people up.
We, either conscious or unconsciously, tend to surmise, based on the tinniest bit of information or detail, wat a person is like.
If we heard about a genius who excelled tremendously in school, graduating his course in 1/2 the years needed, we then blatantly assume that person has a big gap in his/her social life, nose stucked in a big fat text book half the time, and preferably, with a pocket calculator, pants that pulled up till the stomach with exposing ankles and of course, inch-thick, bottle bottom glasses. In short, a nerd. If we see a lady decked out in full brand and jewel fanfair? Must be a 'helpless', mildly pathetic 'tai-tai'; If she is in skimpy skirts and 3" platforms? = brainless bimbo; Boasts a lot? = untrustworthy; Rich? = spoilt; Great pianist? = angel descended to earth; Gangster? = uneducated; Vegetarian? = peace loving nut; Fighter pilot? = cool like Tom Cruise.
Ok, i think i've running out of steam to churn out any more examples. The thing is, it's really such a sucky bad habit, and it'd be nice if there was less of such bias views in the world.
Oh btw, did u know Hitler was a vegetarian and an animal lover? Hah...
Currently reading: Blood Pact by Tanya Huff - 4th book of the series.
Just finished reading: Blood Trail and Blood Lines by Tanya Huff- One is about werewolves and the other is about a mummy. Frankenstein Book Two: City of Night by Dean Koontz (As good as all his other books. Planning to get Life Expectancy, Velocity, and Forever Odd (2nd book on Odd Thomas). The final book on Frankenstein will only be out by summer 2006.)

preparing for exam
Hmmm, preparing for exam would be much much MUCH more fun, if only, knowing that once the test is over, i won't have to immediately work on everything else that I have delayed since last week, or, well, last semester.
Note to self: Get a grip on my priorities and stop procrastinating.
But then again, with my horrible attraction toward delaying, well... hehe, let's just say, if i were an airport, no planes would ever take off. Wait, they won't have found a way to land in the first place. they would circle round and round until they run out of fuel and crash, blowing up in shards of metal, glasses, flesh and bone.
Oh boy,*clap clap* i'm such a bundle of good cheers today.
Wait, i'm digressing, i think. shucks, should really cut down on these pathetic whinnings. Anyways, here is a quote from one of the drama that i recently finished. I found it to be quite inspiring:
Giving up is the easiest thing to do.
